Traffic Information FAQ

This is a FAQ guide to the Traffic Information page. Here we will cover how best to navigate the graphical map, view CCTV camera images and subscribe to SMS and Email alerts.

How do I navigate around the Map?

Click to zoom into the Traffic Map and pan around by clicking on the red border arrows. There is also a handy locator map under the locater tab. When zoomed in, use this to easily move around the map. To zoom out, use the zoom control panel situated to the right of the map. This panel can also be used to zoom in or switch between the three zoom levels.

What can I see on the Map?

You can see CCTV images on the M4, A55, M48, A48M, A470, A4232, A4042, A449 roads. You can also see Current Roadworks, Incidents and Information.  Clicking any icon on the Traffic Map will provide more information about the item. The information is displayed on the left hand side under the  i Tab tab.

Manually selecting this tab will always list the incidents, roadworks and events at the current zoom level. As you zoom into the map, this list will reduce and show only those items that are visible on the map.

You can click an item on the list to obtain more information and by clicking the <show event on map> link, you will automatically zoom into the area where the incident, roadwork or event is occuring.

Congestion levels along select sections of the M4 motorway are displayed in green, yellow or red depending on traffic flow.

What are alerts?

Alerts can include important information about major incidents, roadworks and events such as concerts, rugby and football games.

You can register and sign in to setup and receive incident alerts via Email or SMS.

Why can't I see cameras on the Planned Events tab?

Planned events occur in the future. Unfortunately we can't obtain camera images that far ahead!

Planned events include events such as concerts, football games and roadworks.

All current planned events are displayed on the map. Clicking on these will result in more information being displayed under the information tab on the right hand side.

What are Travel Time Alerts?

Travel times are estimated journey times between two junctions of the M4 motorway.

Add travel time estimates by selecting two junctions on the M4 and clicking the Add button.

What are RSS feeds?

RSS is a family of web feed formats used to publish frequently updated pages, such as blogs or news feeds. Consumers of RSS content use special browsers called aggregators to watch for new content in dozens or even hundreds of web feeds.
